Lighting and Daylighting: Energy Efficiency and Creating Sustainable Commercial Spaces of the Future

ChipChip Israel, president of the Lighting Design Alliance will showcase the Lighting Design Alliance’s office building in Long Beach, California. This learning facility for the design and construction industry presents more than 10 unique lighting and daylighting applications and represents all commonly used light sources, providing a real world example of the effectiveness of sustainable design from schematic through commissioning and occupation. Chip sat down and talked about the importance of light sources.

Are there any technology advancements or economical factors that make your presentation timely?
The technology associated with lighting design is evolving at an alarming rate.  Energy costs are spiking and will get worse once the smart grid is operational. Will the new solid state (LED) really become the lighting source of the future. How can you make sure to integrate the proper lighting system that will enhance the aesthetics and minimize energy and maintenance costs?

How will the information in your presentation impact attendees or their business operations?
What if we can increase sales for retail applications, or improve worker productivity by simply integrating daylight into architectural spaces. The paybacks are instantaneous. The addition of lighting controls to existing spaces can cut energy bills in half. Energy savings goes way beyond lamp replacements.

Who is your presentation most targeted towards?
The presentation will be focused at owners and designers. It will cover commercial, and some retail and hospitality spaces. Case studies will illustrate working examples.

What lasting value will the attendee receive?
How and where to focus your lighting and controls attention. Front of house and back of house spaces are prime candidates to save energy and maintenance costs.

Any other comments for our attendees?
Remember, the most efficient light is the one you turn off!

Drive to a Greener Future

Ken Kerns, the Marketing Programs Manager with Siemens Industry, Inc., will discuss how to realize cost savings with state-of-the-art variable frequency drives technology. Ken took the time to discuss this topic, its vaue and importance in today's environment.

Q: Are there any technology advancements or economical factors that make your presentation timely?
A:The primary economic factors that make the Drive to a Greener Future presentation timely are the growing pressure on businesses to operate more profitably and save energy while implementing green manufacturing techniques in order to become more environmentally responsible.  Variable Frequency drives provide an extremely feasible method of maximizing power use in any given motor driven system while saving energy, and, ultimately, the environment at the same time.

Q: How will the information in your presentation impact attendees or their business operations?
A: Attendees will leave the presentation with general ideas on where to look for potential variable frequency drives applications in their own facilities as well as understand the basic financial and environment benefits of installing variable frequency drives.

Q: Who is your presentation most targeted towards?
A: The Drive to a Greener Future presentation is targeted for those individuals and businesses who are looking for methods of saving energy, improving profit, and becoming environmentally responsible.  The typical individual disciplines targeted are: Executives who have a desire to implement energy efficient systems, plant managers, maintenance manager energy engineers, process engineers, facility engineers, and government procurement personnel.

Q: What lasting value will the attendee receive?
A: That motor systems offer one of the largest potentials for energy savings in industry today when using an energy efficient variable frequency drive for the control of the motor.
